Mother of Pearl Necklace with Pearl Clusters

This mother-of-pearl necklace was never meant to match. Seven pieces of shell, each cut to its own irregular outline, sit in slim gold frames and catch the light a little differently every time you move.

The stones graduate towards the centre, from small rounded pieces near the collarbone to one long, organic drop at the front. Around each, a halo of tiny pearl beads is wired on by hand, so the edges look soft and slightly unruly against the chain's clean line. Short gold bars link one station to the next, and the whole piece curves into a gentle V that follows the neckline. Wear it with an open collar, a plain knit or a bare neckline and let it do the work. It is dressy enough for a wedding and calm enough for a white shirt on a Tuesday. Keep earrings small; this one prefers to be alone. Each necklace is handcrafted in Jaipur in gold-plated brass. Because mother of pearl is a natural material, the shape, sheen and markings of every stone vary, and yours will not be identical to the one pictured.
