Maaya is the most senior woman in her field, a position earned over many years through judgement, discipline and an unwavering standard of work. She got there by consistency rather than visibility, which is the slower route, and she knew that when she chose it.
Growing up, she watched her parents work harder than many of their peers and receive less credit for it. The lesson stayed. Success would never depend on permission or approval. It would depend on doing the work well, and doing it repeatedly.
Colleagues bring her decisions they have already made, hoping she will confirm them. She rarely does, which is why they keep coming. But work is not the whole of her life. Home stays separate from the office, and there are parts of her that belong only to family, close friends and herself.
